CARS – Generally among the best in terms of quality.
SAFETY – Offers several in-app safety features, such as sharing your trip in real time with a contact and even recording the conversation with the driver in case of issues. Uber has the best safety system overall.

inDrive

This app stands out for its model where users negotiate the fare directly with drivers. It’s well-known for its flexibility and fair prices.

PRICE – Probably the best prices thanks to its offer-based system, where you choose what you want to pay and drivers can accept or counter your offer.
CARS – Generally good quality, though Uber vehicles tend to be better.
SAFETY – We didn’t experience any issues, although the app lacks some of the emergency features that Uber provides.

Cabify

Cabify is another globally recognized app offering a service similar to Uber, with positive ratings in Medellín.

PRICE – Prices are usually similar to Uber, making it a solid alternative.
CARS – Among the best in quality, just like Uber.
SAFETY – We couldn’t test it in Medellín, but based on experience elsewhere, it provides excellent safety and service.

DiDi

DiDi is one of Colombia’s most popular ride-hailing apps thanks to its competitive rates. We personally didn’t use it since Uber and inDrive were enough, but it’s widely trusted across the country.

PRICE – Offers good deals, especially for new users who often receive discounts.
CARS – Generally similar to inDrive, good and reliable but more common models.
SAFETY – We can’t comment from experience, but according to other users, drivers are verified just like on Uber and inDrive.

Check that the driver has good ratings and plenty of completed trips. We always avoided new or low-rated drivers.
If you pay in cash, try to carry the exact amount. We never had issues paying in cash, but it helps avoid awkward situations.

Use inDrive during the day and Uber at night. That’s what we did — inDrive was cheaper during the day, while Uber felt safer at night.
Avoid sharing too much personal information with drivers. While most drivers we met were incredibly kind, it’s always better to keep things general.
Tip your driver if the ride was great. We often left small tips because the service was friendly and professional.
Ask for recommendations! Many of the best local tips we got about Medellín came from our drivers — from restaurants to hidden viewpoints.
