⚠️ THE SCAM: If a company asks you to leave your passport or a very high deposit, be cautious. When you return the motorbike, they claim it has scratches or damages you didn’t cause. They usually refund less of your deposit or even ask for extra money to return your passport.
✅ HOW TO AVOID IT?: Always take photos and videos of the motorbike’s condition when you receive it. Never leave your passport, and always choose rental places with good reviews on Google Maps.
Scams in Phuket: Overpriced Taxis
⚠️ THE SCAM: Taxi drivers often don’t give you a price upfront and tell you to hop in. At the end of the trip, they’ll tell you the cost, which is usually double or triple what it should be.

⚠️ THE SCAM: Some people pose as police officers and try to issue you a “fine,” threatening jail time if you don’t pay it immediately.
✅ HOW TO AVOID IT?: Always ask for identification before making any payment. If they refuse, request to be taken to a police station to settle the matter.

⚠️ THE SCAM: If someone on the street or at a market offers to take your photo with an exotic animal, be careful. It’s likely a scam, and once they take the photo, they’ll demand payment.

✅ HOW TO AVOID IT?: Always book activities with reputable agencies. Street vendors can be an option, but my advice is to always compare prices and check Google Maps reviews to get an idea of the service quality.
