How to Get from Marrakech Airport to City Center?

Taxi at Marrakech airport

Marrakech airport is relatively close to the city center (about 7 km) and is very well connected. To reach Jemaa el-Fna square, which is the heart of Marrakech, it can take us about 20 minutes by taxi and about 40 minutes by bus.

In this blog, we’ll explain the two ways to get to the center and the different prices.

Taxi from Marrakech Airport

One of the best ways to get to the city center or your accommodation is to take a taxi. We were surprised by how simple it is, as in other places like Egypt, you have to negotiate the price with taxi drivers, and sometimes you feel like you might be getting scammed or given a higher price. In Marrakech, it’s much simpler.

Right when you exit the terminal (in the parking area), there are typical self-service machines (like McDonald’s) where you can select your destination and see the trip price directly.

Taxi Price: How Much Does It Cost?

The price varies based on the time you take the taxi:

  • During the day: The price can be between 100-150 Dirham, about 10-15 euros at the exchange rate.
  • At night: There’s a night surcharge, so it usually goes up to about 200 Dirham, about 20 euros at the exchange rate.

Tips for Taking a Taxi

Before taking a taxi, here are some tips that can help you:

  • There’s a person next to the machines who will help you select your destination and make the payment.
  • Always pay by card, and if you can, exchange Euro to Dirham from your mobile app. It’s much cheaper and you avoid paying commissions. You can use Revolut, it’s what we always use.
  • If there are several passengers, the trip will be cheaper for you. A normal taxi is usually for 4 people, so the price can be split.
  • If you land in Marrakech at night, it’s best to take a taxi. I wouldn’t recommend taking a bus at that time, not only for comfort but also for safety.

Bus from Marrakech Airport

Another highly recommended and very simple option is to take the bus to go to the city center. Buses in Marrakech work very well and prices are usually very cheap.

To take the bus, you should also head to the parking area, where you can wait for bus number L19 which will drop you right in front of Jemaa el-Fna square. You also have the option to walk a bit more (10 minutes) and take lines L11 and L12 which will drop you near the square and you’ll have to walk about 5 minutes.

The trip price is usually 10 Dirham, which is 1 euro at the exchange rate. Honestly, it’s a highly recommended option if you’re traveling alone and have arrived early in the city.

Tips for Taking the Bus

  • It’s the most economical option and you can take it inside the airport parking, which is very safe and monitored.
  • The price is €1 at the current exchange rate.
  • It’s usually full of tourists so you don’t need to worry, but always watch your belongings.
  • The driver usually speaks English, so you can ask any questions or even ask them to let you know when you’ve arrived at the main square.
  • It’s usually available until 10:00 PM/11:00 PM. If you arrive later, the best option is to take a taxi.
