Nok Island, Thailand: The Hidden Paradise Few Know About in Koh Yao Noi
Nok Island: the secret island almost nobody knows about
Nok Island is a hidden gem that practically no one promotes.
You won’t find any advertising or organized kayak tours. Most visitors arrive on large boats, usually late in the morning. But if you want to enjoy the island almost entirely to yourself and avoid the crowds, here’s how to do it.
1. Get an early start and head to Pasai Beach
Arrive at Pasai Beach in Koh Yao Noi around 9:00 a.m.
There you can rent a kayak for the crossing for about €3-4 (the price is negotiable).
Very few travelers choose to go by kayak, and that’s precisely what makes the experience so special.
2. Check the sea conditions (very important)
Before heading out on the water, always ask the rental staff if conditions are good.
If there’s too much wind or strong currents, it’s better to wait or try another day. The locals know perfectly well when it’s safe to paddle.
3. Leave before the tourist boats arrive
Set off before 9:30 a.m. The crossing takes about 30 minutes, which means you’ll arrive around 10:00 a.m.
The large boats usually arrive later, between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m., and that’s when the island gets crowded.
4. Keep an eye on your kayak while enjoying the island
Once on the island, enjoy the calm, swim, explore… But always keep your kayak in sight. The tide rises quickly and can carry it away.
💡 Local tip: leave it in the center of the island, well secured and away from the water.
5. Return before the boat traffic arrives
The return takes between 20 and 30 minutes depending on your pace. Try to come back before too many boats arrive so you can enjoy calm waters again.
✨ The best-kept secret: arrive early, leave early
No music, no bars, no street vendors. Just the sound of the sea, a stunning beach, and absolute silence. This is one of the best islands we’ve visited in Thailand.
It’s your chance to experience Nok Island like few people do.
